BARIO
highlands is inhibited by the Kelabit tribe who are well known for
their friendliness and hospitality.  The highland is a plateau
surrounded by imposing mountain ranges. It is approximately about 1000 metres above
sea level, and it is a remote place located in the heart of Borneo.  The
people are mainly farmers cultivating and producing the finest rice
grains called the "Adan" rice.  Bario is also well known for it's
pineapple and salt.
In
recent times,  tourism has become a fast growing industry in Bario.
Visitors from all corner of the world make Bario as their holiday
destination to enjoy the nature, rustic scenery, and unspoiled tropical
rainforest.  Hiking has emerged as a popular activity.  A guided trek
into the "Ancestral Trail" in Bario's Pulong Tauh National Park, is one
of the most spectacular and demanding hikes in Borneo.  Thanks to Volvo
Trucks Malaysia for their great corporate social responsibility (CSR)
initiative in the construction of the five conservation eco-shelters
which were built strategically along the treks leading to Batu Lawih, an
important land mark shrouded in local legend and myths.
