Arur Talun Prayer Mountain:

History:  The Kelabits are predominantly Christians (Sidang Injil Borneo SIB).  In 1973, an outpouring of the Holy Spirit came upon it's people, young and old.  This experience is referred to the "Bario Revival".   The people were so hungry to seek the Lord and they came to Arur Talun Prayer Mountain to pray, hence the name.  According to the Bible, Jesus often gone into the mountains to pray.

It is a 1 - 2 hours hike depending on your pace and level of fitness. The climb is steep, and on rainy days it will get slippery and dangerous, therefore it is not advisable to climb it.  Your safety comes first.  On the ascent to the summit, you will find a rustic church at 3/4 of the way.  Once at the top, you will be greeted by two crosses, the old rugged cross was erected in 1973 during the revival, and the tall steel cross was added in 2015.  You will have a good view of Bario Valley from here.  However, an early morning hike around 5.30 a.m. is highly recommended to witness the Bario Valley covered by a sea of mist, and the sight of mountain peaks breaking through the cloud.   The sunrise is worth waiting for.

Batu Ritung:

Batu Ritung is a megalith stone featuring bird carvings and humanoid figures with heart-shaped faces approximately 2 metres in height.   It is a remnant of the megalithic culture once practiced by the Kelabit.  It is located in Pa' Lungan which is about 2-3 hours walk from the air port.  Recently, a professor from the UK conducted a case study on megalith, and verified that it existed some 2500 years ago.
